Occupations With The Highest And Lowest Divorce Rates

Divorce Rates

Kansans who work in certain fields are likelier to get divorced, according to a study. Those who work in other fields carry the least chance of divorcing. Those who enjoy higher annual incomes have lower divorce rates.

FlowingData collected and analyzed data from the 2015 American Community Survey. It found that people who work in professions involving nightlife or who travel extensively for their jobs are the likeliest to get divorced. Bartenders had the highest divorce rates. Software developers, actuaries, medical professionals and scientists had the lowest ones. Part of the reason for the higher divorce rates in travel and nightlife professions might be the fluid nature of their schedules, but part of it could also be related to income.

In 2015, the mean divorce rate in the U.S. was 35 percent. Jobs related to shipping, transportation and travel have average divorce rates that are significantly higher than the national average. Those who were in the previously mentioned professions of actuaries and etc. had the lowest divorce rates along with those who are involved in rural occupations such as agriculture.

No matter the reasons for getting divorced, people will have to contend with multiple issues. If they have been married for a long time, the property division portion of their cases may be complex. They may also have to handle alimony and child support. Determining the appropriate child custody and parenting time arrangements will also be necessary. Experienced family law attorneys may guide their clients through the process, helping them to make choices that are based on logic rather than on the emotional conflicts that they might be experiencing.
